Vision
To have innovative concepts and research in precise science to better our local communities.
Our team is a group of multidisciplinary research student aspirants who pride themselves in the convergence of passion for scientific research and innovations towards creating sustainable solutions to local problems within our communities. In particular, our team seeks to participate in the renowned international research program called iGEM which is an annual, worldwide synthetic biology event that allows students to push the boundaries of synthetic biology by tackling everyday issues facing the world. This prestigious competition has diverse teams from all over the world; however, Korea University has been the only South Korean university representative so far.
Hence, as a convergent major-based team from Yonsei University, Underwood International College, we believe this is a valuable opportunity for us to move beyond the scope of classroom-oriented learning and represent Yonsei internationally. Through iGEM, we can practically collaborate with the local Korean society in finding practical approaches to alleviate current challenges in energy, environment, nutrition, and/or diagnostics.
Background
Our story begins with the simple resonance of Yonsei University, Underwood International College's mission which is to encourage the vibrant intellectual exchange of scholars and students from different fields together into one program in order to navigate the complex intellectual landscape of our modern world. More so, the realization that, while Yonsei boasts itself of research impact, there is little to no opportunities for undergraduate students to have hands-on experience in owning scientific research projects with the potential of becoming the next start-ups globally.
Therefore, our team was founded to initiate channels where science major students can get lab experience outside of their colleges while simultaneously collaborating with non-science majors to innovate the next generation of ideas.
We hope this also highlights labs open for Yonsei students to further their education while also promoting Yonsei university on a global scale.
